Course Narrative
In Spring 2013, I took Spanish 303 (Adv Spanish Grammar). This class main focus was on reviewing all phases of communication skills with practice in understanding, speaking, and writing grammatically correct in the language of target, Spanish. This class also taught me specific components of Spanish grammar such as the Spanish verbal system, the subjunctive, the Spanish verbs ser vs. estar, and other problematic aspects of grammar. This class met the MLO 2 requirement on language and linguistic knowledge through different coursework assignments. My development and accomplishments in this area can be reflected through a few book assignments, writing assignments, tests and projects. Through the assignments shown below I can clearly demonstrate my accomplishments and knowledge gained during this advanced Spanish grammar course. While taking this course I was surprised of how little I knew but glad of how much I gained once I completed the semester course. Since I am a Spanish major with an emphasis in Language and Linguistics knowledge, it is very important for me to really focus on MLO 2 courses for the same reason that these courses deal with the sound system of Spanish (phonetics/phonology), advanced grammar, Spanish-English translation, a general introduction to Spanish linguistics, and composition and verbal conversation. One goal that I want to set myself would be to further my knowledge on Spanish grammar and actually be able to clearly understand structural rules and such rules as morphology, syntax and phonology, phonetics, semantics, and pragmatics. Although this grammar class was a bit challenging at times, I did gain some new skills and learned some new things that will come in handy later in my career as a Spanish major at CSUMB and further education.
