Course Narrative
In Spring 2013, I took Spanish 309 (Hist & Polit of Latn Amer). This class main focus was to study Latin American history focusing on the development of political and social structures since the independence movements of the 19th century. It also emphasized on the Latin phenomenon as caudillismo, indigenismo, the Church and liberation theology, and the revolutionary movements in the 20th century. This class met the MLO 3 requirement on literary and cultural knowledge through different coursework assignments and readings. This class also helped me develop a reasonable understanding of the ways of thinking (ideas, beliefs, attitudes, values, philosophies), the behavioral practices (patterns of social interactions) and the cultural products – both tangible and intangible (for example, art, history, literature, music) — of Latin America culture. My developments and accomplishments in the area of culture can be reflected through a few book assignments, writing assignments, tests and projects. Through the assignments shown below I can clearly demonstrate my accomplishments and knowledge gained during this history and political class of Latin America. While taking my very first course on Latin America history and political I learned a lot. As a Spanish major I need to be aware of my surroundings such as the history and politics background on my language of target. One goal that I want to set myself would be to further my knowledge and awareness on literature and culture in the Spanish speaking world.
